Washington Redskins and Colleges

I named the post "Washington Redskins and Colleges" mainly because of two alternate logos used by the team. The primary logo of the NFL team from DC, originally from Boston (wow, both the Redskins and Braves originated in Boston, which shows you how ingrained the natives were to the psyche of Bostonians), is a profile of a native man in a circle, adorned with two feathers.

An older logo they used in the sixties, and occasionally currently as an alternate, is the same circle, but with the letter "R" inside.

Now here's the logo from the University of Utah Utes:

Maybe they're connected, maybe they're not. That'd be a helluva coincidence if they weren't, wouldn't it?

Next I included a pair of helmet pictures. The first one is from the Redskins teams of the sixties, used then for a pair of years and trotted out occasionally, kinda like the circled "R" from above:

I call it the "Spear and feather" helmet. It looks kinda familiar, doesn't it? If it does, then maybe you like college football, as the helmet closely resembles the Florida State University Seminoles look:

The Redskins' predates the Seminoles, but the 'Noles have been in constant use since their initial appearance.

Having traveled to Florida, I can say the Seminoles are a very proud people, and "The Unconquered" is branded on most things in central and south Florida.

It's usually easy to find logos for high school that match colleges and pros, but not so much similarities between major universities and professional teams, except, for some reason the 'Skins alternatives. Go figure.
